The 4th Infantry Division is the Army's First Digitized Division. It is commanded by Major General Jeffery W. Hammond. His Command Sergeant Major is Command Sergeant Major John S. Gioia. The division shares a long and distinguished history that includes combat in four wars: World Wars I and II, the Vietnam War and Operation Iraqi Freedom. It has earned twenty-one campaign streamers with sixteen 4th Infantry Division Soldiers presented the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Today, the 4th Infantry Division is the most lethal, modern and deployable heavy division in the world; it is prepared to conduct full-spectrum combat operations. It is organized with five Brigade-sized elements: four maneuver brigades and a multifunctional Aviation brigade. The division is split-based, with two maneuver brigades in Fort Carson, Colorado, and the remainder in Fort Hood, Texas. The 4th Infantry Division is proud of its trained and motivated Soldiers, professional officer and non-commissioned officer corps, and its Soldier and Family programs. This all contributes to the status as the premier heavy digital division in the Army, one that works hard at striking a balance between readiness and quality of life. It is a great place to serve.

Fort Hood is in the beautiful "Hill and Lake" country of central Texas. The Post is approximately 60 miles north of the capital city of Austin, 50 miles south of Waco, and is centered two hours from both Dallas and San Antonio. The area provides a wide range of cultural and recreational activities. Fort Carson is located in the southern edge of Colorado Springs and is east of the Rocky Mountains. Its unique location provides for a wide range of opportunities.
